On Thursday evening there was enough water to give Horsetail Fall a nice glow at sunset. Last night there wasn’t. Apparently nearly all the snow has melted on top of El Capitan, and it looks like the show is over for this year. Just wanted to let you all know in case you have plans to photograph it this weekend.
Bummer! Hope some of you got some nice images while it lasted.

not a problem!
It’s a bummer it was dried up but was still a great time. I still kind of like the images of the light on “where the falls should be”
Thanks again Michael. I had a great time on Friday and really feel like a better photographer for the experience.
Thanks
John
Thanks for the message John. It was great meeting you, and I’m glad you enjoyed the day!
Thanks for the info. I got a few decent shots on Wednesday. The film isn’t processed yet but here are the digital ones: http://wideanglewandering.blogspot.com/2012/02/horsetail-firefall-at-yosemite.html
Thanks for the link Guy – glad the light cooperated for you!
Simply an amazing phenomenon. Thanks for guiding me through the experience. Here is one from the evening:

An amazing phenomenon indeed! It was a pleasure meeting you and hanging out with you photographing Horsetail. Glad we got some light!
I have never had the luck of getting the real flames of fire from the falls but have just been to Yosemite last Sunday and Monday to photograph the horsetail, and managed to get brilliant pink rock with a small but definitely there pale pink to white little horsetail falls. Thanks for letting me know so I don’t go and try again. Heard there will be some snowshowers this coming week, but maybe it will be too late anyway for the sun’s angle.
Glad you caught something Carol. As for the snow showers – too little, too late for Horsetail I’m afraid. But let’s hope we get lots more precip in the next month or two.
Even though the timing window will be over soon, perhaps we all need to pray and do rain dances for snow. We need it.
Indeed we do need it David, for so many reasons. Horsetail is just a small matter in the grand scheme of things.
Too right!
