The holidays have kept me busy, so I haven’t been up to Yosemite Valley recently, but we’re having a cold snap, and there should be a lot of ice along the Merced River and Bridalveil Creek. I love photographing ice, because you can find so many great patterns and designs in it, as well as beautiful reflections. Here’s are a few ice images from Yosemite Valley, but if you live anywhere with a cold climate you’re bound to find interesting ice nearby.

Michael,
There is such beauty in winter, even without snow – wow!
Indeed Joseph – thanks!
Nice stuff, Michael. I love ice, too. We were just there for Christmas Eve and day. Were disappointed there was not snow, but the cold made for some nice ice. Here are some of my attempts;

And this time my wife did not fall in, like she did at Mirror Lake a few years ago when it was about 20 outside. Fortunately did not get too wet, but I was a bit concerned seeing that we had to hike back to Upper Pines before she could get any heat and dry clothes. Was faster than waiting for the shuttle, and warmer for her, to hike the whole way.
Glad you enjoyed photographing the ice Aram. If it makes your wife feel any better, I once fell in Bridalveil Creek while photographing ice. 🙂
very Freeman Patterson-ish – which I love-love-love!
very nice indeed…
High praise Greg, thanks!
These are so beautiful. Wonderful patterns, and I love that ice rainbow.
Thanks Vivienne!
Thank you Vivienne!
