I’m pleased to announce that I’ll be having another exhibit at The Ansel Adams Gallery in Yosemite from February 25th to April 7th this year. Called “Elements,” this show will include a mixture of new work and some classic images. It’s been two years since my last exhibit at the Gallery, so it’s great to have another opportunity to display my work there. It’s always a privilege to show my photography in this unique and historic venue.
Also, I’m honored that one of my photographs, Half Dome and Oaks in Flooded Leidig Meadow, has been accepted into the annual Yosemite Renaissance juried exhibit. This year’s exhibit features work by many wonderful artists, including friends Penny Otwell, Charlotte Gibb, Michael Gordon, Kay Pitts, and Kerik Kouklis. And I want to give a special shout out to three of our workshop participants, Kathy Barnhart, Fran Mueller, and Tony Siciliano, who all have photographs included in the show. Congratulations to Kathy, Fran, and Tony!
Half Dome and oaks in flooded Leidig Meadow, Yosemite NP, CA, USA
The Yosemite Renaissance opening reception and award ceremony will be held this Friday, February 23rd, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The reception is open to the public, and is always a really fun event, so if you’re in Yosemite on Friday don’t miss it! But if you can’t make it to the reception, the show will be on display at the Yosemite Museum Gallery, next to the Visitor Center, through May 6th.
And again, my show at The Ansel Adams Gallery (on the other side of the Visitor Center) can be viewed from February 25th through April 7th. So these exhibits give you two excuses to visit the park – as if you needed any more!

Michael Frye is a professional photographer specializing in landscapes and nature. Congrats on both Michael. I’ll be camping in the valley for a week starting May 6. Hopefully they won’t be taking things down before I get there to see it. I especially love Half Dome and Oaks.

Yeah, I hear ya. My plan was based on waterfalls and dogwoods. 🙂 There is a chance I’m in gold country the first week of April. If so, Ill try and stop in to the gallery.

Gear question… If I own a 16-35, should I skip middle and pickup a 70-200 f4 or 2.8 for general landscape work? I trust your opinion more than a lot of reviewers out there. I am now shooting on a FF Sony a7rm3

Everyone sees differently, and has different lens preferences. Having said that, most landscape photographers I know prefer to go either wide or long, so a 16-35 with a 70-200 is a good combination. I also carry a 50mm prime to fill in the gap.
Thank you Michael! I value your opinion. My next decision is whether I’ll about the heavier 2.8 version. Hmnnn… And I thought picking a new lens was going to be easy 🙂
