Planning to visit Yosemite in the next few weeks for the waterfalls and dogwood bloom? While you’re there, stop by The Ansel Adams Gallery and see the current exhibit by Jeff Grandy, featuring prints from his exquisite Unfiltered Series. The show will be on display until May 10th.
Jeff is a long-time friend, and I’ve always loved his classic landscape images, but this new work of his is quite different. He’s focused on the colors and textures of water, and created a series of abstract and imaginative images. You can see some samples on Jeff’s website.
There will be reception for the artist April 21st from 3:00-5:00 and I plan to attend. Hope to see you there!

Hey Michael,
It’ll be fun to check out the gallery.
We’re going to be up there the 30th through the 4th and then I will be meeting a friend and staying for the full moon…. Looking forward to it as I have not shot the valley floor in moonlight.
Any suggestions as to good locales for the Dogwoods? I’ve never been there when they are blooming.
That’s great Doug – hope you enjoy the exhibit. You might be able to photograph a lunar rainbow during the full moon. As for dogwoods, my book and app mention some locations, but they’re easy to find without that – just drive around the valley and you’ll spot them if they’re blooming. Most of them bloom in the east and west ends of the valley. Have fun!
Huh,
I didn’t find dogwoods in the app. Must have missed them. I will look again.
I’m aware of the lunar rainbow timing (one reason I stayed), and I figured it is one of those things you have to do even if lots of people have taken that same shot. I am almost more interested in just shooting the valley floor during the full moon and night lighting….
Doug
There’s not a specific dogwood location in the app, but if you go to Extras, then Seasonal Planning, and look under May you find a list of locations with dogwoods. Or use the filter in the main Locations menu to look for May, and browse those locations for descriptions of dogwoods.
Thank you for the shout out about my show Michael, and kind words too. Much appreciated. It should be a beautiful day in the Valley come Saturday. See you there!
Yes, it should be beautiful, and maybe even hot! Looking forward to seeing you Jeff.
I’m gonna try and be there and look for you both. And thanks for the tip on the “Extras” section of your app. I’d never looked there!
